In general, the information needed for feasibility study is (project location, climate data, crops types, market information, site surroundings, resources on site, logistics, energy sources, water supply, local rules and regulations and financial information).
The greenhouse is designed to specifying the structure type and cover (glass, foil, fiber glass, polycarbonate, nets). Greenhouse climate control systems are chosen according to operating conditions. Typical systems are (cooling, heating, ventilation and screening).
The project layout is prepared including facility requirements: (packaging/sorting area, fertigation / irrigation rooms, water drainage /re-use and sterilization, boiler / heater rooms, electrical room, computer room / offices, staff facilities, utility services, water storage and water waste system). The growing system: substrate, floating beds, hanging gutters, etc… is chosen according to crop type.
Crops growth supporting systems like CO2 and artificial light are considered. All possibilities of sustainability and durability are taken into consideration when technical systems are being designed or chosen.
Energy cost and alternatives are balanced and efficient use of alternatives is considered including CHP.
Biomass, solar energy, geothermal energy and wind power can be alternative cost effective options for traditional systems. The investment and financial plan is prepared concluding project KPIs like turnover and ROI. The feasibility study could be prepared for internal use or as bankable feasibility.
